Little Backyard Roost

These adorable little places create the perfect spot for a retreat, miniature living room, or outdoor-indoor green space. Designed by the UK company Roost, these little spaces are created for each user depending on their lifestyle. You can add on a living roof, insulation panels, and a number of natural flooring options to tailor it to your sense of style. Like the writing sheds of the olden days, these modern day backyard getaways make us smile.

These bubbles of personal space are perfect for anyone who isn't interested in adding on, but would like the extra space. We think these can provide great inspiration for how to effectively design small spaces. From fold-down desks, to space-savvy furniture, the spaces are full of good ideas. With a full side of windows (or more) they also add that element of being outside, without needing to adjust to the weather. Something nice for those of us living in highly variable climates.

Don't fall in love too fast, though; the homes carry a price tag in the tens of thousands of dollars. But no harm in letting our imaginations run.

I can think of a million and one uses for these: a writing shed, a kitchen in the woods, a plant sanctuary, a zen-like getaway, a 'leave me alone' room, an outdoor exercise room minus the elements...

What would you use your very own Roost for?
