Living Walls: Purely Aesthetic or Functional?

In the past, we’ve blogged here about living/green roofs.

Living roofs are beneficial for the environment in a number of ways — they mitigate stormwater runoff, they reduce the heat island effect (by absorbing rather than reflecting solar energy), they provide natural habitat for birds and insects, and they can even be used to grow an edible garden.

So what about green walls?

We haven’t written too much about green walls, and that might be because they are more popular in other countries than they are here in the U.S.

However, according to an interesting post up over at Jetson Green, green walls provide almost all the same benefits of a green roof.

If you’re interested in green walls, check out Green Living Technologies, they even sell green wall systems.
