Fact: Dutch ovens can cook just about anything! From braising meats to simmering hearty soups and stews to baking sourdough, they’re definitely a kitchen essential—yet they often come with lofty price tags. Or so you think! Lodge’s 5-qt. Dutch oven costs way (way!) less than most French brands (especially, for that size!) and delivers equally superior results. Currently on sale for $44.90 (normally $64) as one of Amazon’s early Prime Day deals, it’s just right for all of your cold-weather cooking.

While Lodge’s Dutch oven has over 5,500 solid 4.8-star ratings on Amazon, it’s also a favorite with Kitchn writer (and our “official” Dutch oven tester) Danielle Centoni. She appreciates that, unlike most Dutch ovens, Lodge’s doesn’t have an enameled interior. This makes it better for frying, “because there’s no risk of cracking the enamel,” she says.

Another major pro? For $45, you actually get two pieces of generously sized, pre-seasoned cookware for the price of one! The Dutch oven lid conveniently converts to a 10.25-inch skillet with a wide and deep bottom that works impressively well for cooking burgers or heating oil for frying. The 5-qt. Dutch oven itself is the ideal size for cooking family dinners or meal prepping for yourself ahead of the week.

And while it’s a heavy pot (like most cast iron cookware usually is), it’s also super versatile: The Dutch oven and lid are both obviously oven-friendly but also suitable for use on the grill, over a campfire, or even on an induction stovetop. Plus, the wide loop handles make it easy to grip the pot while transferring from stovetop to oven to table.

So go ahead and queue up all your favorite Dutch oven recipes, because as our Lifestyle Director, Lisa, pointed out when she first spotted the sale, “for that price and quality, this deal is ridiculously good.” We couldn’t agree more!
