My Grandma Added This Affordable “Vintage-Inspired” Rug to Her Bathroom and It Now Looks 10x Better
I love rugs and their ability to completely transform a space — so much so that I wish I had a bigger home, so I could have a different one in every room. Alas, I live in a teensy-tiny studio, so I was just barely able to squeeze in two, with one in my makeshift “living room” and the other next to my bed. The latter is a braided, farmhouse-style carpet that keeps my feet warm when I have to emerge from my cocoon of blankets in the morning; the other is a vintage-inspired, machine-washable rug made by interior decorator Joanna Gaines.
That rug has been a staple in my apartment since last summer, and from early on, it made me a huge fan of Loloi, the brand Gaines collaborated with to make it. There are so many gorgeous designs that it was hard to pick just one. My grandma, I discovered over the holidays, apparently shares the sentiment. When I went to her house for Christmas, I noticed that she added a few new rugs. One of them hails from Loloi, and it created so much warmth in her bathroom!
What Is the Loloi II Heidi Collection Area Rug?
Loloi has been making gorgeous rugs for over two decades now, coming up with intricate textures and illustrated patterns that are meant to last for years. The Heidi collection, in particular, features old world-style medallions and a timeless color scheme. It’s made of 100% polyester and power-loomed in China, and the result is an antique-inspired rug that offers all of the benefits and durability of current construction. The low-pile rug’s sturdiness means you can enjoy its beautiful look for a long while — all at an affordable price point.
Why My Grandma Loves the Loloi II Heidi Rug
I’ve always admired my grandma’s interior decorating skills, even more now that I started living on my own for the past few years. She manages to blend modern and vintage pieces so seamlessly. When I spotted this rug in her bathroom — more specifically, two of them — I thought that it fit right in with her aesthetic. She told me that she chose it for its antique pattern and muted colors, which give it the impression of being much more expensive than it really is. A combination of oranges and browns and a hint of blue are incorporated into the detailed design, and the faded finish keeps it understated and easy to match with any style.
She also landed on the Heidi rug because it offers a low pile, and she wanted it to hold up in a high-traffic area like her bathroom. She’s kept two of them in her space for over a year and pointed out to me that the material still looks as good as it did the day it arrived in the mail. It’s also easy to vacuum and spot clean, she assured me. (Considering that I own a Loloi rug myself and had the same experience, I’m not surprised.) All the while, it’s done wonders in making her bathroom cozier, covering the cold tile floors.
I wish I had a bathroom big enough for a rug like this one — or at least a separate bedroom so I could have a spot to place this rug. For now, I’ll just have to live vicariously through my grandma, who gets to pick out pieces for an entire house. If you’re after longevity and a vintage-inspired (yet ageless) look in a rug like my grandma was, then her pick from Loloi will definitely be a winner. And it won’t make a huge dent in your wallet!
