Even if we were lucky enough to find some cast-off decorative molding like this, we'd never be able to get it home. But we still love the combination of the smooth, simple stone top resting on a mis-matched, ornate base.
We like the way the piece is fragmented, the strength and smoothness of of the granite top juxtaposed with the carved supports, which look a little like ruins. Plus, it's proportioned well, with the two delicate pieces on the right side balancing the heftier stone on the left.
It's a good lesson for other DIY pieces: legs don't always have to match.
