This unassuming little flower box is a highlight of our daily route to the dog park, and we always stop to gaze. Plants from left to right: sweet potato vine (reddish-black foliage); bacopa (white flower); carex (rust-colored grass); lithadora ‘Grace Ward’ (blue flower); dusty miller (silvery-gray foliage); heuchera (coral bells)

It seems to us that what really makes the design of this little garden work is the lithadora, that striking bolt of blue flowers. The pleasing symmetry of the plants (notice how there are two of almost everything?) might’ve come across as boring without that single blue note.
