Adornment for the coffee table. We're just back from Thailand, and though the jet lag is evil, we managed to upload a shot from our camera this morning for the first day of our new theme.
Shot at our in-laws place, this is just one example of the mixing of styles in their home in Phuket. Originally from the Netherlands, our in-laws have now lived in Thailand for a decade and they easily and cozily blend influences from all the places they have called home.
Anyone who has seen the film "Girl with a Pearl Earring" knows that this is a classic Dutch decor choice...an oriental rug used on a tabletop. Here, the rug is used on a traditionally shaped Thai coffee table.
During September, we'll be investigating Adornment, those personal decor choices that make homes unique and beautiful. We'd love to see examples from your place...take a few photos, send them to chicago (at) apartmenttherapy (dot) com with "adornment" in the subject line and we'll put together a post.
This month, we'll also be starting our first ever Chicago-based Cure, for anyone in the Midwest who is up for the challenge of cleaning, organizing and beautifying your home (or at least part of it) this fall. We'll take it one week at a time, following Maxwell's 8 week plan and real change is the result. If you would like the book to follow along, it is available from the AT store or you can check the book blog for links to online sellers. Look for more details tomorrow and a kick-off next week.
