Maarten Baas' Real Time Grandfather Clock

Even though you might think that Maarten Baas' clock is analog, you'd be completely wrong. This so-called clock has got no clock innards: it uses a LCD display to show the time, albeit in a most peculiar fashion.

This real time grandfather clock was created by Maarten Baas. It was part of the REAL Time exhibit in Milan last year and to be perfectly frank, there's nothing grandfatherly about this clock at all. It's got no clock mechanics, it uses an LCD panel to show the time, in a creepy fashion.

There is a man behind the "face" of the clock who re-writes the time every single minute of the day. Don't be worried though. There isn't a man inside the clock: it's just a video that plays on a continuous 12-hour loop. This isn't his only clock. He's got others that use humans to show the time. There is a digital version of this grandfather clock, as well as a world clock that uses different rooms and everyday items to show the time. Then, there's the sweeper's clock.

This just gets better: you know how ominous that new HDTV looks in your living room? Well, how about transforming it into a giant clock, by playing Baas' clocks on it while you're not using the HDTV? Sounds cool and it will soon happen, since Baas' clocks will soon be released on Blu-ray.
