The official start of spring is just a few weeks away, so you might already be thinking about swapping your winter coats for light jackets and dresses. The physical switch can be exhausting, overwhelming, and difficult to execute since winter items take up double the space, but MakeSpace wants to help by offering up an offsite closet.

As of today, the MakeSpace launched Seasonal Closet, which lets consumers store their off-season items for $29 a month. In addition to paying for the storage space, the cost also covers the service of picking up, storing, and re-delivering items two times a year. For those with tight closets, it provides the option of decluttering your home without necessarily having to get rid of items—at least not right away—during spring cleaning season.

Here’s how it works: MakeSpace will send over free packing supplies to fill with all your off-season belongings, and you can schedule two annual pickups for whenever you’d like to swap out your things. And you can check the app to see what you have in storage and to schedule future pick-ups and drop-offs.

Inadequate closet space is a perennial problem for urban dwellers. In fact, MakeSpace polled 1,000 adults in New York, and 90% said they need additional space to declutter and store seasonal items. Also, more than half of the respondents said that they regretted throwing away things because they didn’t have enough space, and 62% said they would trade their dining room to have more closet space (how many New Yorkers have dining rooms is what we want to know).

“MakeSpace was founded with the mission of completely reinventing the antiquated customer experience of self-storage,” MakeSpace CEO Rahul Gandhi said in a press release. “With Seasonal Closet, we’re excited to offer an even more affordable option for customers who need just a little extra space as the seasons change.”

The offering is currently available to customers in the New York City market, but that could change as the website implies “for now.” Check out the official promotional page for additional details.
