Last night we attended the opening of Marimekko's Manhattan flagship store. From the fashion and the fabrics to the food and the grooves—the Finnish sure know how to throw a party!
Located in New York's Flatiron District, the opening of Marimekko's new Manhattan location was just as colorful and vibrant as the prints that filled its shelves. The staff on-hand donned Marimekko smocks, while Rioult, a local modern dance company, entertained guests with occasional mod performances.
The space, designed by Japanese design firm IMA, is a stark white space that sets the stage for colorful clothing and home accessories like glassware, storage containers and cooking utensils. What's really exciting about this store are the towers of signature Marimekko fabrics that you can actually give to the on-site seamstress to be sewed into curtains, tote bags or other goods!
