This Is Martha Stewart’s Cozy “Signature Color” (She Uses It Everywhere!)
The same way that some of you might have a signature scent, Martha Stewart has a signature paint color — and once you know what it is, you’ll start seeing it all over her Instagram feed. It’s a warm, neutral gray that acts as a perfect backdrop for all her landscaping.
Stewart revealed her “signature color” on the Martha Stewart Blog Instagram account. She posted a series of photos detailing the repotting of a few of her tropical ferns for the summer season and explained in the caption that she likes to keep them outdoors in the warmer months. This year, Stewart had two new fiberglass planters made for her two Bismarckia palms.
“These attractive, slow-growing plants are thriving and will do very well in the custom square fiberglass planters, painted my signature color, ‘Bedford Gray,’” she wrote.
Stewart actually created Bedford Gray herself more than a decade ago and sold it through her Martha Stewart Living paint collection through The Home Depot. She talked about Bedford Gray all the way back in 2013 over on her blog.
“As you may know from reading this blog, there is a definite gray theme here at the farm,” she wrote. “I chose to paint all of the buildings the same pleasing color that I call Bedford Gray. Lay down a thick blanket of fog and the entire farm becomes Bedford Gray.”
Sadly, the paint collection has since been discontinued, which means it’s nearly impossible to get your hands on Bedford Gray if you don’t already have a sample available to color match at the hardware store. One online source claims to sell the perfect match to the discontinued hue, but Rockport Gray from Benjamin Moore and Mindful Gray from Sherwin Williams are great places to start when finding a similar shade.
As long as the gray leans more brown than blue, you’re on the right track to achieving that foggy, Bedford Gray look.
A signature color that’s hard for others to copy? Martha Stewart continues to be completely one-of-a-kind!
