Celeste photographs Green Tours for Re-Nest. Although she lives in Oakland, her tours come from all over as she visits friends and family around the country, and they usually showcase homes filled with heirlooms, antiques, and a wonderful sense of preservation and history.
You most enjoy writing about: Beautiful, inspiring homes full of history and style.
Your personal home style is: Dutch fleamarket with touches of American industrial and Scandinavian Christmas.
Your green home must-have is: My collection of vintage silver-plate flatware; great-grandma's Buffalo China coffee cups. I think of her every time I open the cupboard.
Your ideal Saturday morning is: Filling my basket with organic heirloom tomatoes, butter lettuce, dinosaur kale, avocados, sweet dumpling squash, and other seasonal produce at the farmer's market. Throw in a big jar of local honey and a pretty bunch of pink sweet peas since it's an ideal day.
Where you go for inspiration/info/help? Taschen's "Living in the Countryside," Freunde von Freunden, Pia Jane Bijkerk, Elle Decor, World of Interiors, my neighbors' houses and gardens, Tail of the Yak (a fantastic shop in Berkeley).
DIY or buy: In theory "DIY," in reality "buy" (but only second hand).
Favorite CFL or LED lightbulb brand: Costco
Favorite green paint brand and color: Mythic Paint in Warm Welcome
This year you're going to: Start making clothes for my baby, stitch up some throw pillows for our accidental couch/day bed (my brother-in-law's Thanksgiving bed became our full-time couch), continue saving for a down payment on a house.
