Whether she's writing about unlikely home treasures or the value of saving up for high-quality, handcrafted furniture, Landis' background in art (specifically ceramics), photography, and global sustainability give her a keen eye for beautiful and mindful interior design ideas and products.
You most enjoy writing about... Crafts, heirloom design, simple green, the business of green and craft, store profiles
Your personal home style is... An uncluttered, livable, sunny space filled with a mix of handmade craft, mid-century inspired furniture, mod antique pieces, and white walls with large colorful artworks hung in a gallery-like fashion.
Your green home must have is... How about what it has to be? It should be an old home that's within walking distance to NYC-bound public transportation, reducing our need for an additional car. I like the idea of living in a previously established footprint and reducing that footprint with green upgrades.
Your ideal Saturday morning... Sleep in past 8, morning tea and The New York Times with my husband, and a fun adventure or home improvement project ahead.
What's on your nightstand? An alarm clock, Aveda's Hand Relief, a coaster, a picture of my husband and me on our honeymoon, looking rested and tan, and a Robert Abbey gourd lamp I bought years ago (I was luck enough to find its match for my husband's side of the bed).
Where do you go or inspiration/info/help? Two of my favorite design blogs are Design*Sponge and DesignMom. It's also great to get lost in the blogosphere, seeing
what I come across. I also heart Martha Stewart Living, Whole Living, Dwell, House Beautiful, Elle Décor, Ready Made and Better Homes and Gardens Do It Yourself magazine. Really, anything design and homemaking related is interesting to me—I then like to think how I can make the project more interesting and always green the experience.
DIY or buy? Whether I DIY or buy depends on how much time I have on my hands and on the item. If I do buy, I love supporting artists and crafters, so I prefer handmade goods.
Favorite CFL or LED light bulb brand: We have EcoSmart brand CFL bulbs in our home and they're fine. I'm most particular about the light CFL bulbs put off—it should be warm and inviting, not cool and stark like some can be.
Favorite green paint and color: I love Benjamin Moore paints. I've used the Aura paint quite a bit and it's great, but that was before Natura was available. I'll give Natura a shot next time I'm in the market. Regarding color, right now I'm all about white walls, but I do love Benjamin Moore's Pale Avocado.
This year you're going to... Throw pottery and begin selling it again. In college
I studied ceramics and had a little luck selling my wares then, so I'd like to try my
hand at it again.
