Cambria Bold
Dec 29, 2010

Name: Rachel Wray
Started at Re-Nest: July, 2008
Lives in: Chicago, IL

Rachel is another long-time Re-Nest writer. She's also an architect, and her insider's knowledge of the latest building materials and trends make her weekly "Green Architect" column incredibly informative for anyone interested in the nuts and bolts of green building and renovation.

You most enjoy writing about: House Tours and Green Architect posts, designers, creative reuse, gardening and living with less at home.

Your personal home style is: Comfortable modern — lots of wood, neutral colors, and lots of art.

Your green home must-have is: Recycling, vegetable gardening and a french press!

Your ideal Saturday morning is: Sleep in, coffee and a great breakfast, followed by a run through my neighborhood.

What's on your nightstand? iPhone dock, water bottle, a succulent plant in an adorable J. Mendicinoplanter and a lamp.

Where you go for inspiration/info/help? Anthropologie, Asrai Garden, Etsy, Lifehacker, Design*Sponge, Decor8, Door Sixteen, Making It Lovely, Ceramic Tech Today, Treehugger, This Old House, Natural Home, Green Building Advisor, Environmental Building News, Dwell Magazine, old houses, my neighborhood and the city itself – Chicago.

DIY or buy? Honestly, I'm most likely to buy someone else's DIY, but it depends on the project.

Favorite CFL or LED lightbulb brand? At my home we use the inexpensive CFLs sold at Home Depot, at work we typically specify CREE and Juno for LEDs in residential projects.

Favorite green paint brand and color? This year I painted my bedroom 'Stormy Monday' using Benjamin Moore's Natura and I absolutely love the paint and color. It's a great neutral gray with a slight lavender undertone.

This year you're going to: Get married, finish a big painting job, hopefully run my first 5k and start taking my architectural registration exams!
