Why Meghan Markle Doesn’t Make New Year’s Resolutions
It’s the eve of new year, and today, many minds are turning toward picking resolutions for 2018. One person who won’t be making them, though, is soon-to-be duchess Meghan Markle.
It’s no secret that Meghan already has a stellar 2018 on deck—she’ll be marrying Prince Harry in May, and after having spent Christmas with the in-laws, she and her beau are jetting off to start the year on vacation. And, she’ll be sans resolutions.
On New Year’s Day 2016, Meghan wrote on her now shuttered lifestyle blog, The Tig, that she found herself getting caught in the habit of making the same resolutions every year, only to fail.
“Run a marathon. Stop biting my nails. Stop swearing. Re-learn French” were Meghan’s repeat resolutions, and she would be “wallowing in disappointment when I set a goal I can’t achieve. Of measuring each day’s triumph or failure as a benchmark of how the year is going.”
Instead, she decided to “approach life playfully. To laugh and enjoy, to keep my standards high but my level of self-acceptance higher,” and on the advice of a cast mate, “leave room for magic.”
Basically, don’t beat yourself up. And maybe reconsider the resolutions that don’t work for you. In Meghan’s words, “to make my plans, and be okay if they sometimes break. To set my goals, but to be open to change. To let the magic know that there is an open door policy.”
Here’s to a magical 2018!
