- Inspiration for my palette:
- I typically come up with a color scheme based on one particular item that I like, and go from there. For our living room, I found and really liked the Michael Miller fabric that I used to make the curtains and a couple throw pillows, so that's what set the tone for the blue and the green. (That, and we already had the green couch and chair.) Because I had already gone a little too crazy with bold colors in all the other rooms of my house, I wanted a neutral(ish) wall color, but one that wasn't white (too boring) or beige (which makes me cringe) and I really liked this almost mocha color for the walls that I found, which I find neutral yet cozy. I purchased the rug last, by literally searching blue and green rugs on Overstock.com. I was worried that this one had too much yellow-ish in it for the room, but when it arrived I ended up not minding it at all (and the pattern has the added bonus of nicely concealing stains/spills, which is a must in a house with multiple pets!)
- Colors used in my room:
- Glidden's "Kennett Square" for the walls, with blue and green accents around the room
- Tips for using color successfully:
- If I have any helpful advice, it's just to decorate with color combinations that you love and that make you happy, and not overthink things. That said, I try to stick to 2-3 main colors per room or area, so as not to overwhelm people's eyeballs.
