Sometimes, living in New York is kind of a pain, and then sometimes, the city gives you weird little gifts. While walking around Brooklyn one summer afternoon, I remarked to a friend how much I love seeing the cigarette butts that occasionally find their way into a perfectly sized crater on the sidewalk. It is, to me, a reminder that in the midst of the chaos of the world, occasionally things happen that are just right.

I told my friend Luke about the cigarette butts, and he told about the most weirdly satisfying tumblr I have ever seen. It is called Things Fitting Perfectly into Other Things, and it delivers exactly what it promises: disparate objects that accidentally fit perfectly together. A penny slides neatly into a hole on the top of a desk. Bottle caps slot into the holes in the top of a manhole cover. A Coke can drops, just so, into a perfectly sized cup, and you can’t stop watching. Each time, there’s that’s feeling of ‘ahhhh’ — the weird, soothing serendipity of perfect coincidence.

Feeling stressed out? Scroll your way down one of this Tumblr’s 40 pages, and treat yourself to a few moments of things fitting together perfectly. It won’t organize your house or pay your bills, but if you’re anything like me, it will soothe the beast within just a little bit. Even if it’s just a laptop fitting inside a baking sheet, it’s good to know that there are some things in the world that feel just right.

Sadly, the Tumblr hasn’t been updated since 2015, but the joy of the perfect fit is still alive and well on Reddit, at r/Perfectfit. Recent submissions include this pizza fitting perfectly into the bottom of a Tupperware container — both serendipitious and delicious.
