Good news, Metropolitan Home fans. The shuttered shelter mag is returning to newsstands as of this week.
Targeted toward city-dwelling baby boomers, the publication launched in 1974 (as Apartment Life) by Meredith, and was then sold to Hachette in 1992. Hachette closed the publication in 2009 (aka the Year of the Great Shelter Mag Shuttering Epidemic).
Hearst bought Hachette's US titles in 2011, and is testing the waters with this special edition release. "There really wasn't a decorating magazine for city dwellers with modern style," said Hearst Design Group editor Newell Turner. A Fall/Winter edition is not yet in the works, but Turner believes Met Home could eventually return as a quarterly publication.
The Spring/Summer 2016 issue is on newsstands now.
