These are not your average black and whites. We ran into Michael Kenna‘s work when we were googling around the web looking for images of apple trees. Good thing. We don’t know much about him, except that he is around 51, was born in England and now lives in San Francisco…
His photographs are stunning. All black and white, the pictures are largely landscapes in which no one is seen, just a tree, a window, the water…doing its thing. With the sort of perfection he is seeking, it is true that he can at times venture into the ype of art photography that is seen on postcards – it’s too perfect – but the best images set themselves apart.
He is represented in New York by the Robert Mann Gallery (212.989.7600).
