We love the idea of residential wind turbines, but we have heard some grumbling lately about whether or not they're a truly feasible way to power our homes. Regardless, we were intrigued to learn about what Catapult Design is doing with their mini wind turbines in developing countries...
Catapult, a nonprofit design firm in San Francisco, is hoping to bring mini wind turbines to off-the-grid, developing countries, where they can be used to power things like radios, lamps, and cell phones. To see how practical an idea it is, they took their idea to Guatemala and successfully built a mini wind turbine from local materials.
Watch an inspiring video about Catapult Design's wind turbine's at Good magazine (and even learn how to make one yourself). Then check out everything else Catapult Design is up to (LED Lighting, Solar Powered Health Clinics, etc).
