Though there’s a lovely smattering of neutrals and lots of splashes of greenery, black is the central color for Paula Aparicio’s home. Paula’s blog focuses on minimalism and slow living, and these philosophies are noticeable all throughout her home, like the clean white walls, intentional furnishing choices, and the modern black kitchen. The big kitchen, which features black cabinets, black details, gray walls, and sleek white marble counters, is really at the center of the smallish space, and represents the whole home’s style: heavily influenced by Scandinavian design with a touch of Spanish modern.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

Style: Scandinavian.

Inspiration: I got my inspiration from many sources. The first was the book “Scandinavia Dreaming,” then I traveled to Norway and Denmark and I was sure that my home would be like their design.

Favorite element: The original brick pillars.

Biggest challenge: The biggest challenge was to preserve the old original ceiling without damaging it and at the same time we designed the new ceilings for the new layout.

What friends say: When people come in for the very first time they all say “wow.” Because it’s an old building and the interior is quite the opposite. Also they say that “it’s so me.”

Biggest embarrassment: The scratched sofa thanks to my two cats: Macarrones and Modigliani.

Biggest indulgence: It looks like an expensive renovation but it was on a budget.

Best advice: To invest in good design pieces little by little rather than trying to buy a replica.

Dream Sources: Norman Copenhagen.
