Mix and Match Style from Hotel Duo

Renowned hotel designer Jean-Philippe Nuel says that he likes to approach his hospitality projects "as one might write a book or make a film. The opening scenes or sequences are constructed to create a universe laden with sensation and emotion." Paris' Hotel Duo has the varied quality of a stage set, where each space is a little different than the last...

Redesigned by Nuel and re-opened in 2006, the hotel takes a mix-and-match approach to decor, pairing acid green chairs next to houndstooth upholstery, dark black recessed walls against bright white ones, and floral wallpaper alongside austere modern bedding. We think it offers some good lessons in mixing things up and striking the right chord between simplicity and eclecticism.
