This Etsy Shop Offers a Stunning, Modern Take on Cat Trees and Scratching Posts

Cat trees don’t have to look like carpeted toy block towers. Some of them are actually elegant, interesting, and even sculptural. Through Design Milk, we learned about the Etsy shop Real Tree Cats Store, whose cat trees and other cat furniture and accessories are handmade from sustainable materials including driftwood. We’ve never seen cat trees like this before.

Shop owner Vadim, who has two cats and two dogs of his own, according to his Etsy bio, says he uses only natural materials, including wood, manila rope, and cat mint to make his products. The secret ingredient of his cat scratchers is cat mint hidden beneath the rope, which cats smell and want to reach.

While the shop is still new, all of its 21 reviews rate it five stars, and a few include photos of pretty satisfied-looking cats. “Wow! Beautifully made! and finally a scratching post that isn’t an eye-sore in my apartment!” writes one reviewer. “Best of all my kitten loves it.”

One of the most stunning pieces in the shop is a cat tree with a C-shaped perch or “cave” lined with faux fur. The lining is attached to the wooden perch by velcro, so it can be removed for washing. The wood itself is available in six finishes: oak, ebony, walnut, rosewood, clear, and mocha. Buyers can also request a bit of extra customization. “For bodypositive cats I can make an additional perch between base and cave,” Vadim writes.
