We combed through a few of our favorite Austin interior designer portfolios to bring you eight simple and modern dining rooms full of great ideas to incorporate this holiday season. Borrow a few of the ideas for your own dining room or just enjoy the beautiful photographs!

Pair warm-colored chairs with a modern wood table We love this combination of upholstered chairs around an ultra-modern dining table in the Dry Creek Residence by Tracey Overbeck Stead. With both chairs and table featuring straight lines and a simple design, the composition gives off a modern yet very warm feeling. The area is topped off with a restrained, colorful table arrangement and a modern take on the chandelier.

Combine leather chairs, a white table and a bold arrangement Stead's personal dining room shows how a few strong choices can create quite the interesting dining space. She combined a stark white modern table with casual, warm-colored leather chairs, and then completed the design with a colorful and multi-height table arrangement. A big and bright white sphere pendant brings in great shape and texture.

Use furniture to define the space In the Taylor Loft by Stead, a small and modern white oval dining table is paired with rounded dining chairs to create an intimate dining area in an otherwise oversized space. Small hanging lights focus warm pools of light on the table, further visually distinguishing the dining area.

Use contrasting elements for interest In the Mendocino Residence by Kasey McCarty, white chairs contrast with dark cabinetry creating excitement with very few elements. Yellow flowers and an eye-catching overhead light top off the design. You can create this look with sharply contrasting wall paint and furniture colors.

Incorporate tall elements for drama Though we know it's often suggested to keep table arrangements low for conversation, we think this tall, silver candlestick arrangement in the Enfield Residence by McCarty (which recently won a 2009 ASID award) is the perfect thing to add a kick of drama.

Spice up a simple table with colorful chairs If you can't afford a new dining table or are just looking to add a little interest to a plain one, a set of solid, bold-colored chairs is the perfect addition, as seen here in the Marble Falls Residence by McCarty. Using solid-colored upholstery can also highlight a great fabric texture. Adding a small bowl of seasonal fruits completes this simple, modern look.

Emphasize comfort with an oversized tablecloth Dining rooms don't always have to be formal; using an oversized, floor length tablecloth like in this Tarrytown home by Anabel Interiors is the perfect way to add a comfortable, casual feel to a dining space. Finish it with warm-colored chairs and a simple table arrangement and you have a cozy, modern dining area.

Let the food stand out with a neutral palette In the San Antonio home of Dixie Chick Emily Robison, designed by local designer Joel Mozersky (and featured in the November issue of Metropolitan Home Magazine), patterned fabric on the dining chairs and a monochromatic and neutral color scheme on the table and accessories creates an interesting room, and one that will let the colors of the meal really pop.
