Back again with another pearl of cleaning wisdom from the archives of my mother's brain. This is such a great way to get to some of those sneaky spots that you never quite manage to make time for in your weekly routine, without spending any longer than you normally would on chores. I'm implementing this one this weekend.
Here's Mom's advice:
Each week, replace one part of your basic bathroom/kitchen/vacuum/dust with deeper, more strategic task that goes beyond what you'd normally do.
- Instead of dusting, tackle those mystery black wall marks with a magic eraser.
- Skip vacuuming the rugs and vacuum under the bed instead.
- Let the kitchen go for a week, but clean out the fridge.
- Don't bother with the bathroom but scrub the shower grout clean.
End result? The normal stuff still gets done (mostly), but those other can't-ever-quite-get-to-them tasks are also accomplished. Rotating weeks and replacing parts of your other regular chores means the bathroom doesn't get skipped over for too long, yet you don't have to spend more time cleaning than you normally do.
