This Versatile Vintage Classic is Back & in Bathrooms Everywhere

Mosaic tile floors are having a renaissance. Of course, as many of you will point out, they never really left — lots of bathrooms, including the one in my New York studio, have floors like this that have been there for years. So these floors are not so much a trend as a classic that’s getting a (well deserved) moment in the spotlight.

The bona fides of this particular kind of floor are many: they’re classic, they’re beautiful, they work with almost any style of bathroom. Unlike many of the tile trends of recent years, they’re relatively affordable, and, as time has already shown, they last practically forever.

This bathroom by Kate Lester Interiors shows how well a vintage-style floor can work in a modern bathroom. It coordinates nicely with the subway tile, but also adds a welcome dose of pattern.

This mosaic tile floor (in a black and white basketweave pattern) is just right for this modern bathroom with a bit of a vintage twist. Spotted on Skona Hem.

This bathroom, from Vignette Design, is unusual for having a floor that has black, and not white, as the background color.

This solid black border, designed by Kari McIntosh, reads a bit more modern.
