The Most Popular Romantic Movie in Every State
As strange as it seems, where you live appears to have an undeniable bearing on your taste in romance films. The folks over at Streaming Observer have done the legwork and compiled their findings in a rather intriguing infographic that breaks down the most obsessed-over romantic movies by state.
The process behind highlighting romantic films by state was a tedious one (anything for love, right?) to say the least. To begin their regional-themed cinematic analysis, Streaming Observer experts relied on Rotten Tomatoes data to gather their list of all-time romantic movie faves. Then they tapped a team of analytics experts to analyze Google Trends to compare love film viewing on a state-by-state basis.
According to the site’s heat map, “Ghost,” “Her,” “It Happened One Night,” “Sense and Sensibility,” “Silver Linings Playbook,” The African Queen,” and “Titanic” are really popular in multiple states. And in what should come as a surprise to absolutely no one, the report found that the country’s collective obsession with “Titanic” still goes on. James Cameron’s heart-wrenching retelling of Jack and Rose’s unyielding love is the most searched romantic movie in the country.
So which states are filled with the most romance movie enthusiasts? New York, Massachusetts, and California top the list respectively as the top three states with the most interest in love films. And then there are states that are drawn to films with a shared affiliation such as Pennsylvania’s interest in “The Philadelphia Story” and “Brokeback Mountain’s” popularity in Wyoming, which served as the setting of the film.
In the search for people who love romantic films, there were a few particular states that were absolutely unyielding. For instance, South Carolina and West Virginia are categorized as “the least concerned” with romantic movies, and Mississippi came in dead last with little to no regard for love stories that make you weep openly or otherwise.
