News: Most Reliable TV? Flat Ones

Nov 6, 2007

So here is a reason to upgrade to that flat panel TV you have had your eye on. Consumer Reports states that flat panel displays are 5 times more reliable than comparable rear projection TV's. How so?

On average, within the first three years of use, flat panel sets have a 3% repair rate compared to an 18% repair rate seen with rear projection sets. What's more important though is the recommendation against buying the extended warranty. When the cost and length of the warranty is considered against the low repair rate and average repair price of approximately $300, you are better off taking the chance that your new set will hold up just fine.
