Moving Tip: Heavy-Duty Dollies for Super Heavy Furniture

Over the next 72 hours, approximately 250,000 people will be moving into or relocating within the greater Boston area. If you belong to this group and own heavy furniture, may we strongly recommend the miraculous refrigerator-grade, heavy-duty dolly...

We recently purchased this solid wood card catalog on Craigslist and knew there was no earthly way we would be moving it anywhere without A.) a small army of gladiators or B.) a serious dolly. Most hardware stores provide affordable rental rates for a wide variety of large tools and appliances. When we asked for a dolly, our guys asked, "What are you moving?" When we replied, "A solid wood, 5'-tall card catalog," they instructed us to take the refrigerator-grade model.

Heavy-duty, slip-proof strap, parking breaks, and thick bumper pads for going up and down stairs, this Dolly does not mess around. You could possibly relocated a small shed with this thing. We still had to remove all of the dovetail drawers (60 of them) to even get the thing to budge, but once we had two legs on good old Dolly, it was actually quite simple to move around.

This dolly will be a serious lifesaver for those readying to move any form of super heavy, upright furniture and do not possess the aforementioned gladiator brigade. We recommend going to smaller, neighborhood hardware stores first, like Connelly Hardware in Washington Square. Our 24-hour dolly rental cost $9.
