If you’re lucky enough to have one, the mudroom is a pretty crucial spot in your house. It’s your first point of contact with the place you call home, the place where you sit down and take off your shoes and your coat and ease into the comfortable, relaxed, at-home version of yourself. It’s a catchall for all your going-out things, your boots and your hats and your bags, so it needs to be highly functional. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be a beautiful space, one that works hard and also welcomes you home. Here are nine mudrooms that do both.

This mudroom by Kate Marker Interiors has individual cubbies for each member of the family, with plenty of hanging storage for bags and coats. There’s also hidden storage above and below, for items that don’t get used as much.

In addition to a handy bench for putting on and taking off shoes, this entry space from Skona Hem, via High Street Market, also has dedicated storage space for sunglasses and bicycle helmets.

A small mudroom can be equally as effective as a large one, like this little nook from Studio McGee, which works hanging space, shoe storage, and a bench into a very small footprint.

Here’s another storage bench, in a laundry room/mudroom combo from Style at Home.

A rustic wood wall adds a touch of texture to this mudroom form Z+ Interiors, while the assorted boxes and baskets help to keep clutter under control.

For those who prefer concealed storage, there’s this mudroom from Heather Garrett Interior Design via The Inspired Room, with individual cubbies covered by frosted-glass doors.

And finally, from Hawkes Landing, via their Instagram, there’s this ultimate mudroom luxury (especially for a family with lots of children): a little shoe washing station, right inside the front door.
