My Room: Emmerson

My Room: Emmerson

Jodi created an initially neutral room that she could accessorize after her child's birth when she discovered her "lemon" was a girl: My husband and I decided early on that we wanted to be surprised with the sex of our first baby, and I started following an online website that compared the size of the fetus each week to a fruit. Around week 14 the baby was the size of a Lemon and that nickname stuck for the duration of the pregnancy.

Because we didn't know if we were having a boy or a girl, I wanted to create a nursery that could be customized after she arrived to work for either a boy or girl. Our "Lemon" ended up being a little girl, who we named Emmerson Lemon, and I've had SO much fun adding pink, girly accents - many which are recycled from other rooms in our house or that I had purchased many years ago in anticipation of being a Mum one day.

I like the fact that the room is NOT matchy-matchy and filled with many gifts: the alphabet wall decals above Emmy's crib were from her Aunts, the crib from her Grama and Grampa and the duvet and linens from a different Aunt and Uncle!

Some highlights:
• Bookshelf from IKEA about 10 years ago...we sanded and painted it red
• Dresser from IKEA as was SUCH a great price
• The crib is convertible (so important to us to find as many products that are double duty) to a toddler bed and then a double bed from AP Industries via Macklem's in Toronto
• Chair - La-Z-Boy...the comfort level can't be matched

Thanks Jodi and Emmerson!
