My Room: Katerina

Nikki has a message that we love: use items from around your home (which, hopefully, you already love) to enrich a child's room: I am sending in photos of my newly created baby nursery completed just eight months ago. I hope it serves as an inspiration to others to go back to their roots, dig out family pieces that can be re-purposed, and cherished once again. My project was economical, earth friendly, and most of all, fun!

Most nurseries today are outfitted in generic pieces and collections that are purchased or registered for. I tried to dig, scope and extract items and elements that were right here at home & my families' homes that were rich in our family history and culture. The result: a room with great meaning and a comfortable setting, all the while eco-friendly.

Nursery created from scratch; using personal, family and recycled items: handmade bedding, pillows and unique toys. Toy chest and rocking horse passed down in family (re-painted, touched up), Austrian crystal chandelier was her great grandmothers, chair was salvaged after 25 years in a garage with new fabric and wood treatments. Wall hangings are photo copies from a book, outfitted in frames taken from another room. Framed photo of the late grandmother she was named after, Katerina. Items brand new: Crib, Mirror, Dresser, wall decal, baby girl!

Thanks Nikki & Katerina!
