New England Style in a Swedish Hotel

New England Style in a Swedish Hotel

We see a lot of American homes and hotels decorated in the Scandinavian style, but here's an example of a Swedish design inspired by New England boathouses. Hotel J, located just outside of Stockholm, is named for the J-Class Yachts of the America's Cup.

Stockholm-based architects Millimeter renovated and expanded the 1912 brick building, while design firm R.O.O.M. completed the interiors. To mimic the boat house look, they used white-painted wood paneling, blue and white slipcovers, Adirondack chairs, and the occasional American flag or model yacht.

The style seems to work well with the hotel's harbor location. Sailing, fishing, and golf are the hotel's main attractions, and their restaurant specializes in seafodd—a little bit of Newport transported to Sweden.
