New Hybrid Halogen-CFL Bulbs on the Horizon

Consider this an answer to all you impatient types who can't stand the "wait time" of standard compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs. Wait no more. GE has managed to create a new hybrid bulb that provides both brighter illumination and half a second wait times.

We've never really had any reason to complain - we feel like there's better things to do than standing around and waiting for bulbs to reach their full brightness. That said, this new hybrid bulb is awesome.

It works by including a small halogen capsule surrounded by a CFL tube. When you first switch it on, the halogen bulb lights up along with the CFL in less than a second and automatically shuts off when the CFL reaches its full brightness for maximum energy efficiency. The outer shell is kind of an interesting touch, though we're curious how much harder two layers of glass is to recycle when the bulbs decide to burn out.

The new hybrid bulbs will be available sometime next year in two flavors: 15 and 20-watt bulbs. Pricing will be announced then.
