Not For Parents: Lonely Planet Travel Books for Kids

We've had a sneak peak at Lonely Planet's brand new book series for kids and we are intrigued. Not For Parents is a series of travel books, designed especially for kids, that aren't guide books per se but instead meant to be read in anticipation of an upcoming trip. Or for just curling up with in that miniature version of the proverbial armchair. Care to venture a guess on what the first 4 cities are?

The books are rich with cool facts and fun stories about local history, geography and culture, all supported with quirky drawings and striking photography. They also do not shy away from the spooky, the gross and the weird -- just the right formula for drawing in young readers -- which makes them as much entertaining as educational. So we gave you London, that was easy but they are also launching with books on Paris, Rome, and New York. We are very curious to see what cities are next. Perhaps phase two will be the southern hemisphere's turn?

Learn more about each book here: London, Paris, Rome, and New York ($15 each). Each book is also available as a fully illustrated ebook on the iBookstore ($12 each). For a free ebook sampler of the series click here.
