Maker Talks started as live-event discussions and presentations with leading voices from the design and food communities and have become a huge part of Apartment Therapy's event presence in NYC. As we grow and evolve, so has our community of readers. We felt it is important to share the essence of our NYC events to our worldwide community, highlighting individuals who embody an entrepreneurial spirit in a video visit with Maxwell bringing us right to the heart of each Maker's creating space.
Our inaugural episode features Farrah Sit, a ceramicist and furniture maker. Farrah embodies everything that we feel a Maker is: understanding a sense of self, formulating innovation and creating a product or service that he/she strongly believes in.
We are excited for this new series of videos and cannot wait to explore this world further with you.
Bio: Light + Ladder is the culmination of founder Farrah Sit’s dream to create a business based on quality, function, beauty and community. The company’s hopes represent a return to meaningful consumption by providing quality American-made accessories for the home. With the ethos “own less and own well,” designer Farrah Sit focuses on creating strikingly simple objects that speak to their intended purpose.
Farrah left the business model of the fashion industry for the independent studios of Brooklyn to make objects that inspire peace and human connection from designer to manufacturer to consumer.
Her work reflects this intention in the quality and originality of each product, her exacting attention to detail coupled with a quiet minimalism.
