We received this notice too late to go in our events calendar, so we append it here now. It's from Julie at Son's + Daughters and it looks like its going to be a festive as well as HUGE city-wide fundraiser for Katrina's victims:
Time Out New York, Son's + Daughters and America's Second Harvest are putting together a worthwhile day of charity this Saturday for the victims of Katrina, titled "NEW YORK KIDS RESPOND!". Sponsored by TONY and Sons + Daughters, we have put together a city-wide campaign to raise money for America's Second Harvest.
Stores, restaurants and theatres around the city will be donating large portions, if not their entire day's sales, to America's Second Harvest, the nation's largest charitable hunger-relief organization, this Saturday, September 10th. It will be a great chance for parents and children to go out, enjoy some theatre, lunch and perhaps some last minute school shopping, knowing that their money will immediately go to aid destroyed families in the Gulf.
Here are some of the day's activities:
Sons + Daughters will donate and match 100% of Saturday's profits, while the 14th Street Y will be at the store handing out balloons for the kids and Marisol Lowing will set up her Lemonade Stand for refreshments, donating all of her profits.
TONY Kids Stage Battle of the Bands for Kids! at the Knitting Factory will donate a portion of every magazine subscription sold at the event.
Manhattan Ensemble Theatre's abridged and musicalized version of Midsummer Night's Dream will donate proceeds from their two Saturday performances to the campaign.
Willy Bee's in Williamsburg will be holding a free all-day event with games, contests and prizes in honor of their anniversary and will be raffling off a party package, with all proceeds going to charity.
My Little Village will donate 100% of the Special Play Day activities.
Exit9 will donate 100% of the day's profits.
Downtown Yarns will donate 20% of the day's profits.
Additional Participating Stores Donating Sales include:
Jane's Exchange Resale
Great Jones Cafe
