How Nicole Gibbons Spends Her Perfect Night In
Perfect Night In is a series where we ask actors, artists, entrepreneurs, and beyond how they’d spend the ultimate luxury—a blissful evening at home.
We wanted to feature a dynamite design boss for Women’s History Month, so say hello to interior designer and entrepreneur Nicole Gibbons.
Gibbons has gone from running a successful lifestyle blog formerly known as So Haute to starting her own design firm Nicole Gibbons Studio and becoming a TV personality on “Home Made Simple” on the Oprah Winfrey Network. And in 2018, Gibbons launched her latest passion project, Clare, an online paint service that has revolutionized the paint shopping experience as we know it.
Gibbon’s rolled out Clare to the masses last July, and the internet went crazy. Meaning bright or clear in Latin, Clare provides a direct-to-consumer paint collection that has since simplified the selection process, from a Color Genius tool that narrows down your choices, to zero-fuss peel-and-stick swatch samples.
For someone with an eye and mind for design, we can’t help but think about how she enjoys her own space at home. What better way to find out than asking her to paint the perfect night in for us? See below for how Gibbons likes to spend her evenings at home, and take notes.
Set The Scene
Your perfect homebody scene in 5 words: Cozy blanket, dimmers low, Netflix.
Are you alone or with someone else? I’m alone.
Night-in uniform: Sweats, a tee, and almost always socks. I’m very cold-natured, so I like to be warm and toasty.
What two people, dead or alive, would you let crash your night? My best example of the ultimate girls night in is the Beyoncé “7/11” video. It looks like they had so much fun, so definitely Beyoncé. Then Chrissy Teigen because she’s so fun and full of personality. We’ll be instant besties and we’ll hang out every weekend.
Favorite cozy product: The blanket that I love the most. It’s this boiled wool blanket that I got from the ABC outlet back when that existed, it’s like 10 years old and so gnarly. That’s what I curl up in when I have my movie night.
Now Playing
TV or a movie? Movie.
What are you watching? A rom-com, that’s my favorite genre of movies. You can turn your brain off and be entertained. One I love to go back to and watch over and over is the “Sex and the City” movie. It’s the best.
eBooks or the real deal? Currently, neither! I like Audible or a podcast.
Currently reading? It’s going to be Trevor Noah’s book, “Born A Crime.” That’s at the top of my list.
Silence or music? Silence.
Board games, yay or nay? I guess if I’m by myself, nay. In general, my answer would be meh.
What’s cooking
Order in or cook for yourself? It depends. If it’s a Saturday night, I’m ordering. If it’s a Sunday, I’m cooking.
What are you eating? For takeout, I have a little local Malaysian restaurant that’s my favorite, and they have this amazing curry shrimp that I get. For cooking, I like to make a for-real meal, and it varies.
What drink are you pouring? If it’s winter, I like warm things, and one of my favorites is warm cider. I’ll pour cider in a pot with cinnamon sticks and have that because it’s super cozy. Or I’m just drinking water. Everyone’s into La Croix but I’m really into the 365 sparkling water [from Whole Foods], so probably one of those.
What’s for dessert? When I’m at home, I like to bake cookies because I can whip a batch up really fast in like 10 to 15 minutes. I have a modified version of the By Chloe cookie, whose cookies are so good and addictive.
Late night snack? I don’t normally snack at home, to be honest. If I really want to snack, I have to make it, so I don’t have chips or other things around. I think if I had a late-night snack, it would be a beverage or a fruit.
Take care
Do you have a self-care ritual? It’s really just skincare. I never sleep or sit around in makeup so when I’m home just chilling I always clean my face. When it’s the weekend, I tend to put a little bit more care into my routine. I might do a mask or a more luxurious moisturizer that’ll make me a little too oily during the week but would be a nice treat to renew me during the weekend. I got one of those jade roller things, and I don’t know if it works, but I might slide that across my face on a Saturday night.
What do you try to avoid at all costs? Talking on the phone.
Candles, yay or nay? Yay, I’m going to have to give a shout-out to my girl from Otherland, they have awesome candles. Canopy is my favorite.
Face masks, yay or nay? Yay! I try different things. Right now, it’s by REN, and it’s called Flash Rinse 1-Minute Facial.
Bubble bath, yay or nay? Yay! I don’t indulge as much as I’d like to, but they’re awesome. I always do them with oils, and I like putting different oils in the bath so I can have nice, moisturized skin.
Chores, yay or nay? Nay. My nights in are for relaxing.
Ideal bedtime? I like to be in bed around midnight.
Thanks for chatting with us, Nicole!
