What if I told you that you’re just a few steps away from jazzing up your nightstand and

My current nightstand is fairly small and has two tabletop-like surfaces but offers no closed storage. That means everything I put on each tier has to look good, be functional for me, or bring me joy — because space is at a premium, and there’s nowhere to hide anything unsightly. These six items have become my go-tos, and each is under $20. Here’s why I picked them and how I use them in my space.

Patchouli & Rosewood Signature Single Wick Candle

Can I have a round of applause for this candle? It truly smells so incredible; it’s the perfect mix of floral and woodsy, and seems like it would cost way more than it actually does. I love burning a candle as I wind down for the evening, and this one makes me excited to curl under the covers. Just make sure you snuff yours out before bed!

Wick Trimmer

Attention, candle owners! It’s important to have a wick trimmer on hand to help you get the cleanest burn and prolong the life of your favorite fragrance. This brass design is something I actually want to display on my nightstand. I love the way it works with the golden finish on my table’s legs, but it’d be beautiful paired with a simple natural wood or white bedside table, too.

White Real Touch Tulip Bouquet

Keeping flowers on the nightstand always seems like a good idea, until you reach over for your phone in the middle of the night and inadvertently cause a water spill — I can’t be the only one who’s done this, right? Enter these faux, yet ultra-realistic looking tulips to save the day! I displayed them in a new-to-me vintage hobnail vase, and I love how they pop against the smokey gray glass. They’re among the most convincing fake flowers I’ve ever seen, and they cost less than $20. They come in a few other colors, but I think the white is the most convincing colorway.

Golden State Art 11×14 Black Photo Frame with Burgundy & Gold Border Lines

I love leaning art on my nightstand, but I’ll let you in on a little secret: You don’t need to shell out cash for a print when you can repurpose an old map, a page from a book, a print from a calendar, or something else that speaks to you. The NYC scene you see on my nightstand above is actually from an old book, and I popped the page into an Amazon frame to create art that complements my aesthetic yet doesn’t break the bank. The frames linked here are among the best I’ve found on Amazon.

Vietri Incanto French Country Amore Decorative Plate

No bedside table is complete without a trinket dish. I use mine to house favorite matchbooks I’ve picked up from favorite places in New York City and beyond, but if you wear a lot of jewelry, a tray like this one would be a great place to set necklaces, bracelets, and rings overnight. Mine is from Kathy Kuo home; this one is similar and boasts an adorable phrase to boot. You could also use a tiny bowl here, too.

The Inspired Home Coffee Table Book

I’m a big reader, but I also love having a fun coffee table on my nightstand to flip through when I’m in need of a little inspiration. HomeGoods is actually chock full of amazing coffee table books in brand new condition yet heavily discounted. This book was just $20 but retails for $35 or more elsewhere.
