Want to view amazing cities around the world in detailed 3D without using Google Earth? Nokia's Ovi Maps 3D beta is your best bet. Ovi Maps offers a slightly new perspective of the 3D world and the results are definitely impressive.

Yesterday Nokia released a beta of their online mapping service, Ovi Maps 3D. Nokia has somehow managed to create incredibly immersive 3D maps, competing with Google Earth. Ovi Maps requires you to download a plugin for your browser, much like the Google Earth extension for Google Maps. The 3D view is currently limited to 20 major cities including, San Francisco, New York, Toronto, Miami, Boston, Chicago, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Barcelona, Helsinki, Milano, Prague, London, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Madrid, Osio, Wien, Firenze, and Venezia.

The results are definitely impressive. The 3D maps look slightly warped and cartoon-like compared to Google Earth, but Nokia's maps are amazingly detailed. Ovi almost has a videogame look to it, which isn't a bad thing. While Ovi Maps 3D only works in a browser and may not yet be as polished as Google Earth, it's refreshing to see such a high quality 3D map alternative for free online.
