"Man, I've just gotta get out of the city." It's a fairly common phrase uttered by urbanites longing for a taste of the camping experience. Well now you can get the benefits of glamping without having to hop in the car and hit the road. Meet: Camp Arlo, New York hotel Arlo Soho's new urban camping experience in the heart of New York City.
The boutique lifestyle hotel, which ascribes to being a " homebase for urban explorers," has crafted an urban winter campground in the heart of NYC. The campground is in partnership with Tentrr, a tech startup which aims to take the hassle out of camping by connecting landowners with campers.
The limited time pop-up experience is situated in the Arlo Soho's courtyard and features a collection of chic, hand-sewn canvas expedition tents. The tents are lavishly appointed with everything you need to combat the winter elements: faux fur blankets, adirondack chairs, plush sofas, vintage-inspired rugs, twinkle lights, board games, and heaters (a necessary-touch given the recent bone-chilling temperatures in New York).
Guests are can also warm up with cocktails from Arlo Liquor Bar; and in fact the hotel is even working on a menu of specialty hot toddies and hot chocolates to complete the Camp Arlo experience.
With glamping all the rage, and establishments popping up like airstream hotels, is it any surprise that a campground can now be found in the heart of NYC? In the era of Airbnb, hotels are all about creating fun, immersive experiences for their guests. In some cases that might be a urban winter campground; for others that means creating a Game of Thrones experience, a pioneer woman experience, or even bringing a childhood-Home-Alone-2-Plaza-fantasy to life for guests.
