If You Liked IKEA’s Collaboration with Off-White Last Year, You’re Going to Love This New Home Line
If you missed your chance to scoop up something from the IKEA and Off-White collection that launched around this time last year, here’s some good news. Virgil Abloh’s Milan-based fashion label is collaborating on a second exclusive home collection with another big name in design, the online marketplace 1stDibs.
This time around, Off-White has released more than 80 new products, with prices starting at $55 for desk accessories and going up to a little over $1,500 for luxury bed linens. Yes, the line is, on the whole, much pricer than the IKEA range. That said, the same can be true of most things, vs. IKEA!
As far as inspiration goes, Abloh conceptualized this assortment by “taking the familiar and making it new.” Think a traditional wooden wedge doorstop but reimagined on a larger scale, with holes meant to signify meteors. Even the color palette, though very livable and dominated by neutrals like gray, black, and beige, has a little bit of a cosmic flair to it with fluorescent pink and orange accents. Due to the quality of materials used and attention to detail, many pieces can stand on their own as art objects, and fans of Off-White’s aesthetic will recognize logos and motifs carried over from Abloh’s ready-to-wear label.
Some products, including the doormats and desk accessories, sold out instantly, but ceramics, wallpaper, blankets, and towels are still available along with stools and deck chairs as well as other personal effects like pajamas, robes, and hair brushes. The latter category would make great—albeit very luxe—gifts for the design lover that has everything.
The artisanal ceramics are also a standout and come in in two colorways: black with an opaque exterior and glossy interior as well as dove gray. If you only splurge on one piece from this collection, my vote goes to the artfully asymmetrical water jug. It’ll add polish and be a conversation piece when entertaining comes back into the picture, and it will look striking on a countertop or open kitchen shelving in between meals.
If you’re into the way Abloh elevates the basic and makes the high-brow accessible, take a look at this line now. It’s unclear whether sold out items will be restocked before the holidays, so it’s probably best to get something soon before it’s gone.
