Subscriptions are literally the gift that keeps on giving. One such gift is also my favorite way to treat my family and friends—and, to be honest, myself.

I’m not one to subscribe someone to something I’ve never used. I’ve been the proud parent of an adopted olive tree from Nudo since 2012. Yes, you get to call a tree yours, and they’ll even let you visit it, if a trip to Italy is on your bucket list. (I’m still trying to squeeze in some quality time with my tree—goals for 2020.)

A Nudo subscription has all the hallmarks of foolproof holiday gifting: it’s consumable (no tchotchkes hanging around collecting dust); it’s an everyday luxury; and it’s something people probably wouldn’t buy for themselves.

There are levels, too. You can gift one delivery of Italian extra virgin olive oil, which will be from their tree and its grove neighbors, or add on additional deliveries from groves across Italy for either two or four total deliveries. I get the quarterly deliveries, and I like sampling a variety of different oils. Plus, since I always have some additional tins on hand, it makes for easy gifting during the year.

In my experience, it works for all kinds of people, whether you’re a foodie or an occasional cook. I gifted my brother a subscription last Christmas, and he’s a health-conscious personal trainer, but not one who’s generally adventurous in the kitchen. Alternately, a chef friend gifted one to her (also a chef) boyfriend, who loved it.

Seeing as Hanukkah has already started and Christmas is mere days away, Nudo lets you print an adoption certificate now—the recipient can pick their tree later when they redeem it.
