On the 7th Day of Christmas: Tech Gifts Under $1,000

It's Friday and mommy/daddy just got paid! Drop $1,000 smackers on these gifts and you'll officially be Santa of the year. In all seriousness though, $1,000 is when you start making family decisions on the pieces, so check first with the mister or missus. It's not coal in your stocking you'd be worried about! Day 7 of The 12 Tech Days of Christmas closes out the week with a bang. Happy shopping this weekend!

Strut 70" Work Table

Unplggd's very own Jason Yang (hey, that's me) loves this sleek modern work/dining table. Its huge 70"x34" surface accommodates multiple monitors and leaves plenty of room for paperwork and face to face meetings with someone sitting on the other side. The gorgeous matte walnut stain base is connected by stainless steel hardware accents that just complete the look. What an excellent home office desk.

Apple MacBook Air

From $999

To be fair, this sub-$1,000 gift can option up to much much higher than its initial $999 base price, but $999 is $999 and you can get into the Apple game with a super slim MacBook Air. At this entry price point you get an 11" screen with 1.6GHz dual-core processor, 2GB RAM, and 64GB of onboard flash storage. It's a beautiful but expensive machine, that's for sure.

Sony NEX-5N 16.1 MP Compact Interchangeable Lens Touchscreen Camera with 18-55mm Lens

Sure you can get this camera for sub-$500 but the point is that this camera can use interchangeable lenses in what at first looks like a point and shoot form factor. It's DSLR quality that you can actually take with you when otherwise you lose the moment because your DSLR is packed away in its case at home, too cumbersome to carry with you on pretty much every single place you go.

Apple 27" LED Cinema Display

We hear you - why spend $1,000 on an Apple monitor when you can get a huge "PC" monitor for half the price? Well, it's hard to knock the gorgeous LED backlit 2560x1440 goodness that this monitor delivers. Sure, there are other high-end monitors out there for the price, but this is true beauty. It's even got a built-in iSight camera, microphone, and speakers.

Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 Projector

Eek okay, forgive us for going over budget by a mere $45 in the $1,000 category. This 1080p projector is totally worth it for watching Blu-ray and other high definition content. Nothing beats the big screen experience of watching action movies up to 120". Compare that to your measly 50" flat panel TV!

Canon EOS 60D 18 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3.0-Inch LCD (Body Only)

Alright, alright, $89 over budget, but if you scour the internet we're sure you can find yourselves a deal to bring this just under budget. The Canon EOS 60D is an 18MP digital SLR camera with a 3" LCD on the back. This is for the body only and those who say the lenses make the camera will be in for spending another small fortune. If you're graduating from point and shoot cameras, this is a great foray into the world of DSLR cameras.

Deck Out Your Entire (Dorm) Room

Okay, say we're not in the position to blow $1,000 on one single item. Take the opportunity to really do up a single room. In this example from our very own Joel Pirela you can equip your dorm full of tech gear for less than $1,000. Instead of slowly working your way around the house, just concentrate all your funds in one room and make it really nice.
