Is there a room in your home that is completely decorated, but feels a bit blah? Try this one quick trick to instantly add energy to any room.

Add a single piece in a contrasting style.

So if your room is traditionally styled, add a single modern piece, like the Milo Baughman-style lounge chair in the room above, by Emily Henderson. The contrast between styles will make the whole space feel more lively.

Conversely, if your space is super-modern, add one traditionally styled piece, as in this interior by stylist Anna Gillar. That one chair gives the whole space so much extra texture and depth.

Need more proof? Take a look at this interior spotted on Design Traveller, where a Warren Platner lounge chair shines against a background of antiques.

The modern pieces in this interior by Hannes Peer get a healthy dose of texture and pattern from an oriental rug.

I love how traditional interiors can really make modern pieces pop. This chair is fantastic, and this study (slash bathroom? is that a tub I see?) showcases it to perfection. From Casa Midy via La Casa Costa.

These shell chairs keep a traditional interior from feeling too stuffy. From Lantliv via From the Right Bank.

The bombe chest gives this interior from Elle Decoration just a little extra oomph.

And finally, form Nuevo Estilo via Decordemon... a little tulip chair that totally steals the show.
