When it comes to laundry day, there are more than a few necessities from detergent to dryer balls. One of the most important tools that can make or break the laundry experience is your hamper. While any bin can be used to store clothing and linens, not all hampers are convenient for transporting laundry or even saving space in your home. I won’t even consider baskets of certain shapes and sizes because I know right away that they don’t fit into my preferences. That’s why I recently had a hard time nailing down a new hamper to replace one I’d had and loved for years. Then, I spotted one that I knew without a doubt would be an instant upgrade from my last one. The more I learned about it, the more I knew I’d love it: Editor-favorite brands Open Spaces and Onsen teamed up to create the Laundry Hamper that blends the best qualities of both.

What Is the Open Spaces Laundry Hamper?

Featuring a slim profile that works for large and small spaces, the Laundry Hamper combines modern style and thoughtful convenience. Don’t let the soft canvas exterior fool you: The hamper keeps its sturdy shape with the help of four rods that lock in place on its outer rim lid to hold it upright. Capable of holding up to 60 liters of laundry, the hamper’s interior lining is actually a drawstring bag that you can unzip and remove from the frame to take on the go. The bag even has built-in handles and a shoulder strap to make carrying it a whole lot easier. Plus, since the hamper is made with so many soft materials (similar to the editor-loved underbed storage bins), it’s highly breathable, which prevents odors from getting trapped inside. Other details include a sustainably sourced genuine leather handle, YKK zipper that matches the lining, and a slim profile lid that ensures the smallest possible footprint for the hamper from top to bottom.

Why I Love the Open Spaces Laundry Hamper

As a fan of both Open Spaces and Onsen, I was thrilled to learn that the two brands collaborated on the Laundry Hamper. I’d been looking to replace my old laundry bin, and the slim silhouette of the Open Spaces hamper immediately caught my attention. I don’t have a ton of space to work with so finding a bin that wasn’t bulky was a top priority. The hamper was delivered in a compact box and didn’t require any tools to put together. However, snapping a few pieces into place during its setup was a bit more difficult than expected (in fact, I had to get help). Once it was successfully assembled, I couldn’t wait to use it!

Since the hamper is more narrow, I could set it neatly against the wall without it getting in the way. It also easily holds over a week’s worth of laundry, which was a nice perk since wash day isn’t always at its usually scheduled time. My absolute favorite element of the laundry hamper is the removable drawstring bag. My bedroom is far from the laundry room and I always dreaded dragging my hamper across the house. I could carry it, but if I drop anything along the way, it’s at risk of being snatched up by one of my dogs like a toy. Now, I can keep my dirty clothes in the hamper, unzip the bag, and carry it with the handles or straps to the washing machine without a second thought. I definitely could have used one of these hampers back when I had to do my laundry away from home — transporting it is a hundred times easier!

Though the hamper sports a $120 price tag, the convenience, quality, and well-thought-out design more than make up for it. I’ve already made it known in my house that I want one for every bedroom. It’s just that good!
