We've finally found the perfect gift for the guy who has everything: A way to keep track of it all! The IntelliScanner is a high-tech way to organize your real-life media libraries, iTunes-style. But even if your modest DVD collection extends to only two seasons of Seinfeld, you can still get great use of the IntelliScanner for creating a home inventory. You see, the IntelliScanner can scan and track literally anything.

If you're not a natural list-taker, recording and updating your home inventory can be a daunting chore. But what if the whole process was as easy as scanning a bar code, then plugging a small device into your computer?

That's what the IntelliScanner does. It's a combination of hardware—the IntelliScanner Mini, a car-key-fob-sized bar code scanner—and various software that can catalog literally everything in your home (Even the stuff without bar codes, if you use their included bar code stickers):

  • IntelliScanner's Media Software keeps track of DVDs, CDs, books, comic books and video games, updating your database with info from the web, just like iTunes. And if you're frequently loaning out books or movies, you can easily keep track of who's borrowed what titles.
  • IntelliScanner's Inventory Software gives you a place to keep record of your expensive gear for insurance purposes. You can add information like the purchase date and attach pictures to every listing.
  • IntelliScanner's Wine Software is perfect for winos and collectors. Just scan the bar code on each bottle (whether you're at home or out tasting at dinner) and the software updates from an internet-enabled database to fill in all of the wine's details. You get the chance to add your own notes about taste, giving you a digital wine cellar (perfect for those of us without any space).
  • IntelliScanner's Kitchen Software tracks your family's groceries from the pantry to the grocery store shelf. Scan favorite foods and keep a running grocery list of what's needed. You can even email your grocery list (organized by section) to your iPhone or Blackberry.

The IntelliScanner Mini and IntelliScanner software works with both Mac and PC platforms. If you're just organizing media (and only want the media software), you can snag one for $179 ($159 for students and teachers). If you want the "organize everything" package, it'll cost you $249 for the hardware and all software.
