Everyday Inspiration: Egg Crate Organizers

Everyday Inspiration: Egg Crate Organizers

Inspiration is everywhere. As we were cracking eggs for Sunday omelets this past weekend, dropping empty shells back into the styrofoam case they came in, we realized what a spectatular marvel of engineering the egg crate is. It's the perfect design for keeping office knicknacks — like paper clips, rubber bands and push pins — together and apart at the same time, all within easy reach.

You can get the job done (and make creative re-use of "trash"), by repurposing a cardboard or styrofoam egg crate from the supermarket. Or, for a little style extra credit, try on one of these retail versions molded from more grown-up, permanent materials:

Eggflat Felt Crate, $25/$45 from actualsf.com

Farmer's Egg Crate, $14 at anthropologie.com

Egg Crate, $6.95 from Crate and Barrel (in stores only)
