These Cult-Favorite Holiday Candles Are Finally Back In Stock For 2020
The company recently re-launched its Gilded Collection of six holiday-ready scents, all in chic black vessels with gold interiors and art deco details. (Think “The Great Gatsby”, but candles… and, uh, none of the tragic ending from the book.)
The collection sold out pretty quickly last year, and it’s not hard to see why: With names like the leather-infused “Old Fashioned,” floral-forward “Black Velvet,” and citrusy “Silk Pajamas,” these aren’t your run-of-the-mill holiday candles, though you will find plenty of familiar notes throughout. As Otherland’s cofounder and CEO, Abigail Cook Stone, told Apartment Therapy, the collection “pays homage to celebratory winter moments and classic holiday scents, but with a lavish, luxe twist.”
Like the other offerings from Otherland, the candles cost $36 each, while a set of three retails at a slightly discounted $89 from Otherland’s website. Should you be in the mood to splurge, the packaging for the set is seriously giftable, and comes with its own box of matches. (The brand recently launched at Sephora, too, though you won’t find every fragrance from the holiday collection at your local beauty spot.)
Cook Stone said it’s “impossible” to pick a favorite from the launch, but she has been gravitating towards “Silk Pajamas,” which features notes of ginger, bergamot, and yuzu; she calls it “citrusy and bright while still feeling cozy and chic.” As for me, I have my eye on “Sacred Dusk,” a woody candle that promises notes of palo santo and cypress.
While you might not be hosting a lavish holiday party any time soon, wintery candles can certainly help evoke that mood. “I wanted the holiday scents to create an escape at home to a land of fireside cocktails and late-night dancing—something we could all use more of right about now as the months turn colder and we spend more time indoors,” Cook Stone added. “Given that holiday entertaining and travel look a lot different this year, I’ve decided to start my holiday decorating earlier than ever before, and plan on hosting elaborate Zoom dinner parties—festive tablescape and all—with my loved ones.”
And what’s a festive holiday scene without a candle or two… or even six?
