We recently paid a visit to the Herman Miller showroom in Los Angeles, located near the art district in Culver City. The best part about showrooms is that they're usually free from crowds unlike retail stores, so you can browse and try out chairs at your own pace. We were particularly interested in setups that would work well in a home office, and here's a roundup of our five favorite Herman Miller chair and desk setups.
Nelson Swag Leg Chair + Enchord Desk
The beauty of having a home office is you can choose your work chair outside of the office chair category and go for something homier. We've always liked the Nelson Swag Leg chair, it's comfortable and the curves in the chair conform to your body, but it also has the same charm as the Eames molded plywood chairs. At the showroom it was paired with the Enchord desk, the perfect home office desk with a primary desk surface and a secondary surface that slides out for storage of wires, papers, or a laptop.
Embody Chair + Envelop Desk
These two pieces are made for each other, an optimal ergonomic pair. The Embody is designed specifically to create harmony between your body and your computer, reducing stress and relaxing your brain. The Envelop desk is "the desk that moves with you." Why should everything else but your desk move? With the Embody and Envelop you can achieve perfect symmetry in your body and mind.
Mirra Chair + Sense Desk and Media Cabinet
One of the more affordable office chairs, the Mirra chair is praised for its support and flexibility with less material. The Mirra's price point and high performance makes it a good choice for both the home and office space. The Sense desk also works well in both home and office because of its large work surface and adjustable legs that make the desk adaptable for multiple uses. The best part about the Sense desk is the multiple compartments for storage and a wire manager.
Setu Lounge Chair + Nelson End Table
For those of you who don't work at a desk and prefer leaning back on the couch or working on a portable lap desk, the Setu Lounge chair provides ultimate comfort. However you move, the chair moves with you, with a supportive back and Kinematic spine. You can recline easily with the Setu Lounge chair, which makes it ideal for leaning back with a laptop. However, if you do like a table to set your computer on, the Nelson End table is nice compliment to the design of the Setu.
Eames Wire Chair + Nelson Swag Leg Desk
The Eames wire chair, although designed for the dining area, also works well as a work chair given that it is equipped with the leather seat pad. The chair is sturdy but lightweight, providing easy mobility and making it ideal for a small workspace. The Eames wire chair pairs well with one of my favorite desks, the Nelson Swag Leg desk. With compartments that fit electronics like MP3 players, laptops and tablets, the Nelson Swag Leg desk also has a grommet in the back for wire management - an added bonus for all techies. The desk has compact dimensions making it an easy fit for most spaces in the home and is a great colorful partner for the Eames wire chair, which is sturdy but lightweight, providing easy mobility, making it ideal for a small workspace.
